Smartphones and mobile business are important for all businesses – not just those in the mdeical and health professions.

Desktops are nearly universal in UK doctors' offices, and smartphones have also become a part of most physicians' jobs. More than 80% of doctors in the country now use a smartphone regularly for profession-related reasons while at work. It looks like UK physicians are following the worldwide trend of doctors’ offices going mobile, as an August 2014 survey by M3 Research for Cello Health Insight found that 82% of physicians in the country used smartphones for professional purposes. This trailed only desktops, which had become a staple in most doctors’ offices: 97% of respondents accessed such devices at work. SHARE SHARE THIS Despite their portability, which desktops don’t have, laptops ranked a distant third, with nearly half of the percentage of respondents for smartphones. Tablets trailed at 34%. And—no huge shocker here—smartphones had replaced general mobile phones, used by just 14% for professional purposes. Respondents noted that they often turned to smartphones and tablets to search for information and communicate with peers—as well as when their desktop or laptop was being slow. Social media had also made its way into the office, with almost two-thirds of UK doctors saying they accessed such sites for professional purposes. Among physicians who had jumped on the social media bandwagon, information mecca Wikipedia was the most-used platform, with just under half of respondents using the site for work-related reasons in the past month. YouTube ranked second, at 23%. However, Cello noted a shift in doctors’ social preferences over the past four years. Wikipedia and YouTube usage had actually plateaued or even fallen, while the percentage of respondents who used Twitter and Facebook—sites that allow for easier receiving and sharing of info—rose. with lots of things for a kids delight

Aviation, taxidermy, and crafty wood works

The historical homes make a great tour
Contest and oxen pulls are never a bore

Animal friends, I haven’t forgotten you
I have horses, dogs, cows and sheep too

Plenty of petting pens and milking for you
And a simple click is all you have to do

Review of how good restaurants are on some basic SEO Information

 

An interesting piece of research on SEO. The figures you might think are exceptionally good – however these are major US restaurants and the US are far ahead in the use of Mobile than here in the UK.

Reviews (not large enough for statisticians!) in London and Surrey highlighted that only around 10% of sites had a mobile friendly version. Most sites had title tags, but around 50% missed description tags.

So what can you do?

1. Check your pages for descriptions (and titles)

2. If you do not have a mobile website get one. After Lockmiths – Indian restaurants have one of the highest searches on mobile devices (high for other restaurants as well)

 

 

How Top Restaurants Serve Up and Stack Up in Mobile SEO

The Search Agency (TSA) has conducted yet another analysis of how top companies are creating their mobile experiences online, and this time, it sank its teeth into the restaurant and catering sector.

The “mobile experience scorecard” consists of a set of criteria weighing factors on a website, like the type of mobile site, social media presence, geolocation API, and click-to-order, to name a few.

This time around, TSA created an SEO ranking scorecard, too, which looked at the following:

  • Missing Title tags
  • Missing Meta Description tags
  • Large page size warnings, indicating source code more than 250K
  • Click depth warnings, signaling a site buried pages more than three clicks away from the home page

The ranking is based on a points system where five is the best, The following table shows the top 25 performers when it comes to the SEO evaluation, with the first three positions comprised of:

  • Texas Roadhouse
  • Denny’s
  • Eat24

Note that the sites chosen for the research were based on data from Hitwise by total number of monthly visits to a mobile device in August of 2014.

Overall, TSA said the SEO ranking scorecard data shows a “continued inconsistency between reformatted mobile experiences and proper implementation.”

The report reiterated that “while missing Meta descriptions and click depth warnings may not directly affect page load times, large page size warnings do, and of the RWD [responsive Web design] serving sites tested, 50 percent showed errors of this nature.”

Yahoo Directory is being closed in 2015

A question we are often asked is should we bothered about Yahoo. In the UK it is not that important. However a good ranking with the directories other than Google can add 10% or so to your visitors.

However it looks like the Yahoo directory is now closing.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT SITES OF THE WEB'S FIRST ERA IS ABOUT TO GO OFFLINE. HERE'S A BETTER SUGGESTION.

I happen to remember the very first thing I did on the World Wide Web. It was the fall of 1994, and I performed a search for websites about one of my favorite comic strips, George Herriman's Krazy Kat. I was amazed by how many there were, and how easy it was to find them. (There might have been as many as fifteen or twenty.)

I also remember how I did it: Using a new directory which had been put together by a couple of Stanford students, David Filo and Jerry Yang. They had launched their creation in January of that year, and they called it Yahoo! The name was supposedly an acronym for “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle.”

Yahoo quickly became central to the discovery process that was unfolding on the Internet. Even though it had plenty of competition, it was the first place most people went to find information. And if you ran a website, it might as well have been invisible until you got it listed on Yahoo–a process which could involve a long wait.

It wasn't just the first important search site–it was the first important consumer site, period.

Yahoo's web directory stopped being the best way to find stuff on the web long ago. Even before Google came along, it had been eclipsed by search engines such as AltaVista, which automated and dramatically upscaled the process Yahoo's directory performed using the painstaking work of real human beings who found, classified, and wrote descriptions of websites. But the Yahoo directory is still available today.

As of January 1, 2015, though, it'll be a goner. At the very bottom of a blog post published today–innocuously titled “Progress Report: Continued Product Focus”–Yahoo buried the news that it's shuttering its first product. (Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land has more details.)

 

 

Google Has Dropped Authorship From It’s Search Results

Whilst many people have put authorship as a priority for developing their blog content – it seems to have been weaked by recent changes.

It is important still to keep blogging and developing your own brand.

google-plus-authorshipIn a Google+ post, webmaster trends analyst John Mueller says Google has “made the difficult decision” to stop showing authorship in search results.

Google's authorship support page, says simply, “Authorship markup is no longer supported in Web search,” and encourages webmasters to look into rich snippets to improve their search results.

According to Mueller, Google tests showed removing authorship did not generally appear to reduce site traffic or increase ad clicks.

“We've gotten lots of useful feedback from all kinds of webmasters and users, and we've tweaked, updated, and honed recognition and displaying of authorship information,” Mueller writes. “Unfortunately, we've also observed that this information isn't as useful to our users as we'd hoped, and can even distract from those results.”

Being a small company we use a lot of stock videos and images for efficiency and cost reasons. We try to use them with a bit of flair.

However sometimes people want everything in their advertising.

Great use of image and symbolism with the forward thinking speeding bullet train in Japan. The use of DNA helix was a cruel take on the science advertising of big multi nationals.
